Fraser Piano Competition winners announced

Winners of the Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition held at the Festival were announced Friday night after the day-long event. First prize was awarded to Hugo Kitano, 18, of San Francisco, Calif. He won first prize-winner at the International Russian Music Piano Competition, the Young Pianist’s Beethoven Competition and the San Francisco Young Pianists’ Competition and has won awards at the California International Young Artists Competition as the youngest semi-finalist, the New York International Piano Competition, and the International Chopin Piano Competition, the Gina Bachauer International Young Artists Competition, the New Orleans International Piano Competition, and the Manchester International Concerto Competition for Young Pianists.   He was awarded “Best Chopin” prize in the 2012 Music Teachers National Association national finals in New York. Hugo is also a winner of the 2010, 2011 and 2012 U.S. Chopin Foundation Scholarship Competition and has performed on NPR’s From the Top.

Second Prize and Young Jury Award winner Aleksandra Kasman, 18, of Vestavia Hills, Ala, won the National Federation of Music Clubs Stillman-Kelley award, the silver medal of the VII International Competition in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz in Kiev, Ukraine, three time finalist of the Blount-Slawson Young Artist Competition, and Grand Prize winner of the Lois Pickard Competition, performing with the Alabama Symphony. She has performed with the Ukraine National Symphony, given solo recitals in USA, France, Ukraine, Russia and Japan, and appeared with Brevard Symphony (FL) and with New-York Chamber Players.

Third prize Eric Lu, 15, Bedford, Mass., has been winner of First Prize at the Ettlingen International Piano Competition in Germany and the MTNA National 2nd prize. He has performed with the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra, the Longwood Symphony and the Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra.
Other awards:
Best Solo, Rachel Breen, 16, Oakland, Calif., for Bach’s Art of the Fugue. Discretionary awards to Roger Shen, 14, Northbrook, Il.; Anna Han, 17, Chandler, Ariz., and Evelyn Mo, 14, Alexandria, Va.
